His parents, who were each missionaries took him on several trips in his early days. His dad James Colson Baker struggled with depression and unemployed as did his mother Sonia Alane left them when he was nine. Baker relocated to Denver along with his father, and stayed for some time. Baker's poverty was the reason for the bullying of children who were around him. Baker began to listen to rap as a the sixth year. Colson Baker, also known as Machine Gun Kelly was born on the 22nd of April, 1990, in Texas the U.S. His music is a fusion of modern, alternative hip-hop along with rock. Prior to making the move to Bad Boy Records Baker released four mixtapes from 2007 to the year 2010. This Cleveland artist, who can deliver songs as quickly as a bullet-train, experienced a meteoric climb in late 2011, after he shifted to self-publishing mixtapes instead of being signed to reputable labels. His career took off from there, with all of his releases making it to the top 10 of charts.
